Youth And Transitional Justice in Africa: A Practical Training Guide

This training manual introduces young people to the foundations and practice of Transitional Justice (TJ), with a focus on African experiences and frameworks. It explains the history and core mechanisms of TJ—truth-seeking, reparations, prosecutions, and guarantees of non-recurrence—and shows how these tools contribute to peacebuilding and reconciliation.

Centred on the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP), the manual highlights African-led approaches that draw on local contexts, values, and shared priorities. It emphasises the vital role of youth as more than victims of conflict: they are active agents of change, leaders in truth-telling, advocacy, and community healing. Through real-world examples, case studies, and interactive guidance, the manual equips young people with knowledge and practical strategies to engage meaningfully in justice processes. Its goal is to empower youth to address past harms while shaping inclusive and peaceful futures for their communities and the continent.
