Sex, Sexual Violence and Coercion in Men's Prisons: A Literature Review

This paper seeks to explore the available evidence on the various ways in which sex and sexual violence happen between inmates and how these activities function within dominant prison sub-culture. While the intention is to focus on South African prisons, other cited literature ( mainly insights provided from other countries ) , is used in the belief that it is relevant to an understanding of the nature of the issue in the local contexts.

Sasha works closely with the South African Department of Correctional Services and civil society groups to address sexual abuse in detention and the associated health risks.
